Sheila Jobman

April 1, 1944 — March 10, 2021

Sheila Marlene Jobman, 76, of Omaha, Nebraska, formerly of Gothenburg, passed away on March 10th  in Omaha, NE.   She was born on April 1, 1944, the third of four children born to Alan Ray and Florence Mary (Behrns) Cooper at Imperial, Nebraska and grew up on the family farm 3 miles southeast of Lamar, Nebraska. She graduated from Chase County High School in Imperial with the class of 1961. Then she continued her education at Kearney State College (now the University of Nebraska at Kearney) graduating in August 1966. Sheila taught elementary in Lexington and Gothenburg schools.

Sheila married Gerald Jobman on December 26, 1965 at Lexington and moved in December 1967 onto the family farm northeast of Gothenburg where Gerald was raised. Sheila and Gerald became the parents of two children: Tregg Robert and Tracy Kay. In 1995 they moved into Gothenburg, retiring from farming a few years later, and then moved to Omaha in 2016 to be closer to their son and for medical purposes.

Sheila loved learning and found that computers were very fascinating and spent many hours on her “Mac” computers. Teaching adults over 55 was a joy to her as she shared her knowledge of and love for computers with them and enjoyed watching them gain the skills to begin using their own computers. She also did substitute teaching for about 25 years mostly in the computer department at the Gothenburg High School. Genealogy became a hobby that took her to many different states to where her ancestors had lived. She enjoyed walking on what had once been the land of her ancestors and contemplate their life and what it meant to her life. In her travels and contacts, she became acquainted with many distant relatives along the way.  Another hobby she had was to photograph comets and she was able to capture 7 different comets between the years of 1986 and 2009, all done with time exposures at night.

She was a 60-year member of the United Methodist Church, holding many offices in First United Methodist Church of Gothenburg, running the sound system, creating PowerPoints for the worship services, and teaching many Bible studies. She also served as a Certified Lay Speaker in the United Methodist Church for over 30 years. After moving to Omaha, she became a member of the Highland Park Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald (Jerry) Jobman; parents Alan & Florence Cooper, her grandparents Charles & Agnes Cooper and Joe & Lena Behrns, her brother Gary and infant sister Sharon Kay.

Survivors include her son Tregg (Vicki) Jobman of Omaha and daughter Tracy (Rocky) D’Andrea of Dover, New Hampshire; 9 grandchildren: Christy, Dan, Tim, Karissa, Savannah, and Cassie Jobman; Nick Lahowetz; Nick and Tony D’Andrea and two great-granddaughters: Ava and Thea Jobman; her sister Linda (Jerry) Varilek of Lamar; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ron and Sandy Jobman of Kearney; aunt Thelma Mathes of Aberdeen, South Dakota; in addition to nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
