Mary Ann Ebmeier

Mary Ann (Lemmon) Ebmeier, 84, passed away peacefully at Emerald Care Center in Cozad, Nebraska on August 4, 2022.

She was born on July 29, 1938 in rural Crawford, Nebraska to Calvin and Florence (Cullers) Lemmon. She attended country school, riding a horse to school with her brothers.
She graduated high school from Crawford with the class of 1956 . After high school, she worked as a telephone operator, saving money to attend the University of Nebraska. She rode a train to college by herself and graduated in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics. Her first teaching job was in Maywood where she met her husband Darold Ebmeier, who worked at the Maywood Elevator. They got married in Crawford, Nebraska on July 30, 1966. They bought a farm south of Maywood, adding to it over the years. Their daughter Laura was born in 1972, Benjamin was born in 1976, and Calvin was born in 1980. After taking a short break for her children, she returned to teaching in Maywood, retiring in 1999. In 1993 Darold and Mary Ann purchased Nelson Produce in Maywood and D-E Feeds was born. In 2005 they added a bar and restaurant to the store and ran the business until Darold’s death in 2020. Mary Ann then went to live at the Emerald Care Center in Cozad, Nebraska until her death.

Mary Ann enjoyed being outdoors and working with the cattle on the farm. She was a hardworker. She was the organizational leader of the Western Frontier 4-H Club. She helped her
children halter break their calves, taught them to cook and to sew. She was a fantastic cook and seamstress. Mary Ann was famous for her homemade pie. People would come from North Platte and McCook for Sunday dinners at the feed store.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Darold, of 53 years; parents Calvin and Florence Lemmon, in-laws Ernest and Ruth Ebmeier, son-in-law Garrett Nokes, sister Jean Lemmon, brother Jerry Lemmon and brother and sister in-laws Delmar and Francis Ebmeier.

She is survived by her daughter Laura Nokes of McCook, Nebraska. Sons, Benjamin (Mindy) Ebmeier of North Platte, Nebraska and Calvin (Charlee) Ebmeier of Whitney, Nebraska. She was very proud of her eight grandchildren: Trevor and Parker Nokes, Dalton, Macie, Derek and Bentlie Ebmeier, and Hudson and Harper Ebmeier. She loved nothing more than to follow their many activities and accomplishments either in person or on video.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Curtis, Nebraska; Tuesday, August 9, 2022, 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm with the family present.

Funeral Services will be held at Maywood United Methodist Church, Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at 10:30 am.

Interment will follow in the Maywood Cemetery, Maywood, NE.

Memorials may be directed to Benjamin Ebmeier or Laura Nokes to be determined at a later date.
