Marian Peterson

December 14, 1932 — April 2, 2022

Marian Mildred (Rodine) Peterson , 89, of Gothenburg went on to her Heavenly Home on April 2, 2022, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE.

Marian was born on the family farm 15 miles north of Gothenburg, NE, on December 14, 1932, to Theodore and Nora Rodine (Larson). She attended New Hope Country School through the 8th grade. She traveled to school on a two wheeled buggy pulled by her horse named Tony.  She graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1950 where she was a cheerleader for the Swedes. She continued her education at Bonnell Beauty Academy in Hastings, NE, where she received her Cosmetologist License.  After graduation,  she moved back to Gothenburg, where she worked at LaGrace Beauty Shop and lived in an upstairs apartment next to the movie theater.

Marian accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of 10 at Maranatha Bible Camp.  She was baptized at Svea Dal Church, where she was a member, Sunday School Teacher and Organist.  She was also a member of the Spannuth Women’s Extension Club, Svea Dal Ladies Ministries and the Birthday Club.

Marian married Kent Peterson of Brady, Nebraska, on September 18, 1954, at the Evangelical Free Church in Gothenburg. They moved to Wild Horse Valley and lived in the Johnson House next to the Peterson Homestead where Tamera was born in 1957.  In 1958, they moved to the family farm where Kent built her a beauty shop. This worked out well, so her clients could come out to the house to get their hair done, while she raised her family.

Marian was a very busy lady, raising a handicap child, along with raising her three other children, working different part-time jobs, that included Kent’s Drive-in, in Brady, Sales Consultant for Lady Cameo and Figurettes for 27 years and later at the Red Roof Antique Store in North Platte.

As a couple, Kent and Marian enjoyed collecting antiques and traveling. Some highlights were taking a cruise, going to Hawaii, twice, as well as visiting their children and grandchildren in Delaware, Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado and Arizona.

In 1998, they moved to Jeffery Lake. They made lots of memories there with friends and family. They also were able to spend a couple winters in Surprise, AZ, where they enjoyed the warm weather and being close to their AZ family. In 2016, they moved to a brand-new duplex in Gothenburg, which worked out well for them in their golden years.

Kent and Marian enjoyed 67 years of marriage.  They faithfully kept their covenant with each other and the Lord Jesus Christ, as the center of their marriage. They attended Svea Dal for 60 plus years.

She is survived by her husband, Kent Peterson from Gothenburg, daughter Tamera (Rocky) Herrick of St Johns, AZ, two sons,  Craig (Kathy) Peterson of Berthoud, CO and Brent Peterson (friend Stacy) of Brady;  eight grandchildren, Tanner and Colby Herrick of AZ, Kacee (Moore) Herrick, MI, Drew Herrick of CT, Payton and Collin Peterson of CO, Shanell and Madalyn Peterson of AZ and 10 great grandchildren, brother Wallace Rodine of North Platte, and many more nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Nora Rodine, sister Joleen Shaw (Rodine) and daughter Joni Peterson.
