Loyce Rotman

October 22, 1928 — December 14, 2020

Gothenburg, NE

Loyce DeNell Rotman was born on October 22, 1928 on a farm in Webster Township, Smith County KS., northeast of Portis, KS. and passed away on December 14, 2020 at Stone Hearth Estates in Gothenburg, NE. She was the  daughter of Alvy Dell and Nellie Melvina (Atwood) Hayes.  She attended a country school in the area known as Barefoot Nation.  In 1946 she graduated from Lebanon high School in Lebanon Kansas.

For a short time she worked at Richardson Manufacturing Plant at Cawker City, Kansas, and also helped her parents with the farm operations.

One of her pastimes was roller skating which she really enjoyed. It was at a skating rink that she met her future husband, Albert

On January 29, 1948 she was united in marriage to Albert E Rotman at the Dispatch Christian Reformed Church parsonage by Reverend Richard R DeRidder the pastor of the church.

To this union one son was born Daryl Lee Rotman on March 7, 1950.

In 1945 she became a member of the Oak Creek Christian Church south of Lebanon, Kansas and after her marriage she transferred her membership to the Dispatch Christian Reformed Church of rural Cawker City, Kansas where her husband was a member.

In 1958 the family moved close to Dispatch, Kansas, the place where her husband was born and changed their farming operations to more livestock and less grain.

Because of conditions that effected the farm operations in 1968 Albert and Loyce had a farm sale and sold all their farm equipment and moved to Cozad, Nebraska.  After moving there she worked for Tenneco Automotive until she retired after 21 years.  At that time she and her husband Albert started to travel with their pickup and 5th wheel trailer. They put many miles traveling through the United States.  Their favorite trip was a 6 week excursion to Alaska. Loyce had a interest in genealogy so many of their travels were to include places like the North eastern states, North Carolina, Kentucky, Michigan and Iowa where she would explore her and her husband’s family linage.  She created 2 large volumes that traces parts of her family back to the 1600.

In her pastime Loyce learned to knit and crochet, and she crocheted table cloths and also a large picture of the Last Supper along with many small articles that she gave as gifts to friends and family. She crocheted numerous blankets that she gave to family and friends. A similar pastime was knitting.  She made many sweaters for her family members. Another skill that she learned from her mother was quilting and after retirement Loyce enjoyed quilting with her neighbors and friends.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Albert, parents Alvy and Nellie Hayes, her daughter-in-law Betty, her brother Loyd and his wife Verian Hayes and her sister Loretta and her husband, Dale Flynn

She is survived by her son Daryl Lee of Longmont, Co.  Her two grandchildren Kristina Radell and husband Toby Logsdon of Lynwood, Washington and Ashley Paul and wife Amy Rotman of Broomfield, Colorado. She had four great Grand Children Kaleb and Madisyn Logsdon of Lynwood, Washington and Alyson and Ava Rotman of Broomfield, Colorado, and many nephews and niece.
