Louis Bovitz

September 10, 1942 — September 8, 2020

Louis "Lou"  Bovitz, 77, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died September 8, 2020 at Gothenburg Health in Gothenburg, NE.

He was born September 10, 1942 in Hibbing, MN, son of  Rudolph and Frances (Bradach) Bovitz.  Lou grew up in the Hibbing, MN area and graduated from Hibbing High School and Hibbing Technical College. He served his country in the US Army and the National Guards.  He spent the majority of his working career in the computer industry, working as a programmer and computer analyst.  He was the head of the service contract department for several large companies such as IBM and Hewlett/Packard.  Lou moved to Gothenburg in 2005 at the start of the "work from home" era.

He attended the American Lutheran Church where he served on various boards.  He was the Chairman of City Planning and Zoning; on the City Board of Adjustment; and the Board of Directors at Wild Horse Golf Course.  He proudly served as a member of the Gothenburg Honor Guard and was a member of the Gothenburg Rotary Club.  Anyone who had the opportunity to meet and get to know him would walk away and think "wow people like this really do exist".  He was always kind, considerate but most of all a gentleman.

Lou was passionate about the outdoors.  He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer.  He could spend hours just sitting in one spot during hunting or fishing season never bag anything, just happy to be outdoors. He loved being on his Harley Davidson motorcycle and took many trips to Sturgis.

Many friends walk in and out of our lives and never leave a foot print.  Lou left that foot print in the lives of everyone he met. We will miss you and wish you Gods speed on your journey.

Survivors include daughter, Jennifer Patridge; son Stephen (Jennifer) Bovitz; grandchildren Sarah Patridge, Nathan Patridge, Haley Bovitz and Isabella Bovitz; his siblings - Judy (Martin) Kerr, Audrey Laliberte, Larry (Val) Bovitz and Mark Bovitz.  Lou leaves behind many friends including Doug and Regis Swanson, Jo Fuller, and special neighbors Jon & Tara Hudson, the members of the Gothenburg Honor Guard and a host of other friends.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents and his life partner, Jean Fourroux; brother-in-law Bill Laliberte.
