Leonard Newton France, 90, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died December 30, 2022 in Plano, TX.
Leonard was born October 23, 1932, in Gothenburg, NE, son of Kenneth and Martha (Gronewold) France. He was raised in Gothenburg and lived there most of his life. Leonard graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1950.
Leonard served his country in the US Air Force from 1952 -1956. Leonard married Marilyn Peck on June 15, 1952, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Gothenburg, NE. After their marriage, they lived in Bellville, IL (1952), Bangor, ME (1953), Gothenburg (1954-1957), Lexington (1958-1971) and then back to Gothenburg. Leonard worked for the Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District for 42 years. He continued to work as a contractor with the district until his passing.
Leonard was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg. He enjoyed golf, bowling, working, and fixing anything that didn't work just right. Leonard loved traveling to watch his granddaughter dance, and grandsons play baseball, golf, and lacrosse.
Survivors include two sons, Shane (Debbie) France and their children Logan and Austin of Gilbert, AZ; son, Kirk (Rhonda) France of Plano, TX and their children Brett of Denver, CO, Lauren of Dallas, TX, and Scott of Plano, TX; sister, Dolores Heuer of Lincoln, NE; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Leonard was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn Jean France, parents Martha G. and Kenneth France, brother Gene France and sister Bonnie Adams.
Visitation will be held at American Lutheran Church, 1512 Ave G, Gothenburg, NE; Friday, January 6, 2023, 10:30 am - 12:30 pm.
Services will be held at American Lutheran Church, 1512 Ave G, Gothenburg, NE, Friday, January 6, 2023, at 12:30 pm with Pastor Doug Hjelmstad officiating.
Interment will follow in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE.
