Cynthia Peklo

June 10, 1954 — August 26, 2021

Cynthia Georgette Peklo, 67, of Omaha, NE, formerly of Gothenburg passed away on August 26, 2021 at CHI Health Lakeside Hospital in Omaha, NE.

She was born June 10, 1954 in McCook, NE, to George and Alice (Vogt) Hays. She grew up in Cambridge, NE, on a farm south of town.  She always loved being outside and had a love of animals. She attended Cambridge Public Schools and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1972.  After graduating, she got her Licensed Practical Nursing Degree. She then worked at Slacks Nursing Home in Gothenburg for many years.  She lived in Gothenburg until August 2018 when she moved to a care center in Omaha.

While living in Cambridge, NE, she attended St Paul’s Lutheran Church and was Baptized in 1954 and confirmed there in 1968.  She later became a member of the American Lutheran Church when she moved to Gothenburg.  Cindy loved her daughter, Melissa, and always thought about her and was proud of her grand children and great-grandchildren and kept them in her heart.  She always enjoyed going to all the school programs and activities.  Cindy loved her parents and helped as she could with their care.  She also loved her sisters and other relatives.  She always had a knack for remembering birthday dates and would try to call friends and relatives on their birthdays to make their day special.  In her earlier adult years, she loved being a nurse and loved helping people through her work.  In Cindy’s later years as health issues became more of a concern, she always tried to remain positive and thankful for the people who cared for her and assisted her with her needs.

Survivors include a daughter, Melissa Peklo of Lincoln,  two sisters, Colleen (Ted) Bode of Omaha, NE, and Pamela Leibbrandt of Culbertson, NE; four grandchildren, Nikita Marie (Sean) Skougard, Charles H. Sanford Albertson II, Isaac Scott Albertson and Lucas Chance Albertson, and three great-grandchildren, Dedrick James Peklo, Xalya Rai Lynn Skougard and Oliver Albertson: four nephews and nieces, and nine great-nephews and nieces.

Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents, George and Alice Hays, and brother-in-law, Duane Leibbrandt.
