Charles Brown

Charles Robert Brown, 89, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died December 6, 2021 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.

Charley was born on July 28, 1932 son of Onie and Parilee Mae (Harvey) Brown in Macon County, MO. At a young age, his family moved to Nebraska. He attended school through 8th grade near Red Furn table, north of Cozad. At the age of 15, he went to work for Hoff and German Potato Co. running the potato digger and plow. Later on, he went to work for Frank Cook Northeast of Cozad as a farm hand.  Charley was married in 1950 and to this union, three daughters were born, they later divorced. In 1954, Charley started farming for himself on a farm north of Cozad. On September 17, 1961 he married June (Griffis) Davis, along with his three daughters, he gained a son, Duane. To this union, four more children were born. The couple then bought a farm northeast of Arnold and the family moved into Arnold. He farmed there for three years before trading farms with his brother-in-law Harold and the family moved to the farm northeast of Gothenburg. In 1986, Charley moved the family to Brady where he started a truck repair shop. When he closed down his repair shop, he started a haying business and enjoyed the time spent with his grandsons, Jacob Brown and Titus Earll putting up hay. He resided in Brady until 2015 when he and his wife moved to Gothenburg.  He was a very good self taught mechanic. After working for himself farming, he worked winters overhauling tractors for Bill Rice John Deere Imp. He loved to visit and could start up a conversation with just about anyone!

Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, June Brown of Gothenburg, daughter, Carol Lunkwitz of Brady, daughter, Charlene (Calvin) Krepcik of Farnam; daughter Pollyanna Brown; step-son, Duane (Jeannine) Davis of Brady, son Rodrick Brown of Brady, son, Chad (Patti) Brown of West Point, UT, son, Travis (Tina) Brown of North Platte, NE, and daughter, Heather (Kevin) Earll of Brady, NE, 30 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren,brother, Harold Brown of Bevier, MO, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Charley was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Violet, Viola, Josie, Alberta, and Nettie; brothers, Howard, Rollie, and John, granddaughter Jessica Freidrichson and great-grandson Brandon Freidrichson.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, NE; Friday, December 10, 2021, 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm with the family present from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm.

Services will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 10:00 am with Pastor Robert Litzenberger officiating.

Burial will follow in the Brady Cemetery.
