Beverly D. Schmeeckle, 85, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died March 24, 2020 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE.
She was born November 16, 1934 in Wild Horse Valley north of Brady, NE, daughter of Reuben Andrew Nathanial and Gertrude Fickenscher Bratten. Her family moved to Gothenburg when she was four years old. She attended a one room school, District 91. She graduated from Gothenburg High School. She then attended UNL for a time and then St. Luke's School of Nursing in Denver, CO. She married Dale L. Schmeeckle on January 2, 1955 and the couple had two children Timothy and Susan. Bev dedicated her life to the family farm where she grew up, Her children and her grandchildren were the light of her life and she cherished her little great grandchildren. She has a special place in her heart for the cattle and showing them. Bev and Dale were pioneer breeders of Simmental cattle and took many awards specially the bull Aristocrat. Bev was an active member of the Nebraska Cattlemen and the Cow-Bells. She judged many Cow-Bells recipe contests. She was recognized for her accomplishments as a Cow-Bell by being inducted into the Cattleman Hall of Fame in 2017. In her later years, she accomplished her lifelong dream of owning a restaurant, The Farmer's Wife. She was well know for her pies and cheesecakes.
Survivors include Son, Tim Schmeeckle (Teri) of Gothenburg, NE; Daughter, Susie Schmeeckle of Gothenburg, NE; grandchildren Justina, Robert, Shelby, Shawna, Jason, Shane and Leila; 16 great grandchildren; sister Cheryl (Larry) Wieskamp of Lincoln, NE; along with many extended family and friends.
Beverly was preceded in death by husband, Dale; her parents Rueben and Gertrude and her sister and brother-in-law Marilyn (Jim) Peterson.
A Celebration of Life for Bev will be held at a later date.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Thursday, March 26, 2020 from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. You are welcome to come to the funeral home to pay your respects to Bev, but please be mindful of the current request for limited social contact and groups of less than 10 people.
Due to the current social and health concerns, we ask that if you are wanting to just drop off a card that you mail it directly to the family or funeral home and if you are just wanting to watch the video or sign the book that you do so on our website and we will print those all in the book for the family.
Private family services will be held at Gothenburg Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the American Alzheimer's Association.
