Betty E. Etherton, 89, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died May 8, 2020 in Gothenburg.

She was born June 9, 1930 in Gothenburg, NE, daughter of William and Agnes Peterson.

She was born and raised north of Gothenburg.Betty graduated from Gothenburg High School with the class of 1947. After graduation Betty moved to Lexington where she worked at the Northwest Telephone Company. Later, she moved back to Gothenburg and went to work for attorney William S. Padley and then later worked for the Gothenburg Telephone Company. Betty met Kenneth Etherton in 1953 and they were united in marriage on September 26, 1954 at the Evangelical Free Church in Gothenburg. Betty worked side by side with Ken on the farm and also provided janitorial services for the District 29 school for 23 years.

Betty was a member of the extension club, white cross, women's missionary society, Christian women's club, Betty's club, and the Red Hat society. Betty enjoyed spending time with her family, crocheting many things, cooking for family as well as with the supper club.

Survivors include  three daughters,  Koya (Garnold) Kreft of Cozad, NE, Ginger (Craig) Gies of Lincoln, NE, Holly (Mark) Ballmer of Gothenburg, NE, six grandchildren, Kaleb (Amanda) Kreft of Portland, OR, Rachel (Gregory) Franklin of Murfreesboro, TN, Luke (Jenna) Ballmer of Kearney, Brooke (Josh) Kendle of Lincoln, Olivia Gies of Lincoln, and Madison Gies of Minneapolis, MN, and 4 great-grandchild Greyson of Lincoln, Jaxson of Lincoln, and Briar and Collins of Kearney.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Ken, parents William and Agnes and brother Harold Peterson.

Graveside services will be held at the Fairview Cemetery south of Cozad at 11:00 am Monday, May 11, 2020, open to the public (please be aware of Social Distancing at the Cemetery, keeping 6ft from those that do not live in the same house as you)

Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Cornerstone Bible Church.
