Vernon Block, 91, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died November 4, 2017 at Hilltop Estates.
Vernon was born November 29, 1925 northwest of Cozad on the family farm, son of Ricus and Elizabeth Block. Vernon married Gail Delap on September 17, 1950 at Buffalo Grove Church in Lexington, to this union four children were born: Linda, Marlene, Cindy, and Gary. They lived on the family farm east of Gothenburg.
Vernon was a member of the American Lutheran Church serving on various committees and was a board member of the District 47 School board and was a member of a bowling league. Vernon enjoyed having a cup of coffee with friends, cars, horseback riding, and sketching in his younger years. One thing that Vernon enjoyed more than anything was time spent with his family.
Surviving are wife, Gail Block of Gothenburg, son, Gary (Lisa) Block of Parker, CO, daughters, Linda (Sam) Erion of Sturgis, SD, Marlene (Jon) Radcliff of Littleton, CO, Cindy (Wendell) Wessels of Kearney, grandsons, Josh Erion, Michael Erion, and Eric (Havilah) Wessels, grandaughters, Jami (Nils) Radcliff Olson, Ashley (Dave) Withrow, Kate Wessels, Lauren Block, and Hannah Block, great-grandchildren, Avelyn Olson, Avery Withrow, and Skylar Withrow, sisters, Arlene (Rodney) Aden, and Gerri Kampe, sister-in-law, Bonnie Block, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Virgil Block, Archie Block, and Alvin Block, brother-in-law, Don Kampe, and great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Withrow.
Visitation will be held at the American Lutheran Church; Tuesday, November 7, 2017, 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm with the family present from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm.
Services will be held at American Lutheran Church, Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at 10:30 am with Pastor Jon Mapa officiating.
Interment will follow in the American Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorials may be designated to the American Lutheran Church, or Hilltop Estates.
