Verna M. Nichols, 78, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died January 31, 2017 at Cozad Care and Rehabilitation in Cozad, NE.
She was born September 14, 1938 in Gothenburg, NE, daughter of Virgil and Elsie (Block) Geiken.
Verna married Loel Nichols on June 14, 1957 at Gothenburg and to this union four children were born - Jeffrey, Mark, Teresa and Mike. The family lived in Gothenburg; Memphis, TN; and Santa Anna, CA. Verna worked as a banker at Gothenburg State Bank for many years. She loved flowers and gardening. She was an avid decorator at Christmas time.
Surviving are three sons, Jeffrey (Wanda) Nichols of Gothenburg, NE, Mark Nichols, Mike Nichols of Gothenburg, NE; daughter, Teresa Nichols of Gothenburg, NE; grandchildren Preston Nichols, Lindsey Metcalf, Kyle-lynn Blaise, Devan Yendra, Courtney Nichols, Kendra Nichols; two sisters, Carolyn Boerkircher, and Yvonne Wolf.
Verna was preceded in death by husband, Loel Nichols, father, Virgil Geiken, mother, Elsie Geiken, sister, Sharon Geiken, brother Gary Geiken.
Services will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, February 3, 2017 at 12 Noon, with Pastor Larry Viter officiating.
Burial will follow in the Ft. McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE.
