Trudy Greene

March 12, 1925 — December 14, 2018

Trudy Greene, 93, of Gothenburg, NE, died December 14, 2018 at Hilltop Estates.

She was born March 12, 1925 in Gering, NE, daughter of Marcia Ann (Hilliker) and Dr. Walter Charles Harvey Sr.

Trudy grew up in Gering and graduated from Gering High School.  She later graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan with her Bachelors in Music.  She married John W. Greene, Jr on August 11, 1947 at Gering and the couple had five children - Ann, Susan, Bill, Carolyn and Bob.   John and Trudy lived briefly in Hartford, CT and in California.   They made their lifelong home in Gothenburg.  They did, however, live a few years at Johnson Lake and spent several years snow birding in Arizona. Trudy was active in her community.  When her children were growing up, she was involved in Girl Scouts, Guiding Star and Job's Daughters.

Trudy was a member of the Gothenburg United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was active in their many women's groups.  She could often be found playing Bridge with different groups.  She was a member of the Red Hats Society, PEO and served for many years on the Gothenburg Library Board.    The library addition and the ongoing John Greene, Jr. scholarship are two of her living legacies. Trudy was a kind and generous part of the community.  She was always busy and actively involved with her family and friends.  Her diverse interests included knitting, planning social events, Go Big Red sports, football and girls volleyball. Her children's fondest memories included sledding in the hills, baking and icing Christmas cookies, traveling, attending movies, school functions, games and musicals.  She provided hot lunches at home for her children every school day.

Survivors include three daughters, Ann (Kathy Gideon) Blacketer of Phoenix, AZ, Susan (Russ) Trinter of Rapid City, SD, Carolyn (Edward) Montgomery of Kimball, NE; two sons, Bill Greene of San Diego, CA, Bob (Erica) Greene of Omaha, NE; brother, Boyden Harvey of Florence, AZ; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; along with extended family and friends.
Trudy was preceded in death by husband, John Greene, Jr., her parents, siblings Walt, Art and Betty, and daughter-in-law, Sue Greene.
