Shirley Claflin

February 14, 1938 — December 31, 2018

Shirley Georgene (Meester) Claflin, 80, of Gothenburg, NE passed away December 31, 2018 at the Gothenburg Hospital.   Shirley was born February 14th, 1938 daughter of Walter & Johanna Meester in Gothenburg.   Shirley graduated from Gothenburg High with the class of 1955.

On June 2nd 1957, she married Edward E Claflin and to this union they had 2 daughters, Michelle & Melissa.

Shirley lived in Gothenburg all of her life with the exception of a brief time at Fort Riley, Kansas when Ed was in the military.  She worked several jobs in town including Meyers Drug, Babysitting, Social Service Work and she retired from the Post Office as a Rural Route Carrier.  She was a member of the American Lutheran Church.  Besides spending time with her family, Shirley enjoyed Camping, Square Dancing, crocheting afghans for family and friends, doing craft projects and adding to her collection of cookbooks and nativities (last count was over 350).

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Ed Claflin of Gothenburg, Daughter Michelle (Mike) Courtney of Lincoln, NE.  Daughter Melissa (Terry J.R.) Walker of Gothenburg.  Grandchildren, Courtnee (Jordan) Magnuson, Levi, Alexander, Xavier and Gabriella Walker.  Great Grandchildren, Khloe Georgene and Oakley Tyler Magnuson. Sister, Bonnie (Dexter) Wedemeyer of Cheyenne, WY and many nieces and nephews and extended family.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Walter & Johanna Meester, Brothers, Larry, Ronnie and Robert Meester and grandson, Tyler Lee Walker.

Visitation will be held at Blasé-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg on Friday, January 4th 1-7 p.m. with family visitation 4-6 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the American Lutheran Church, 1512 Ave G on Saturday, January 5th at 10:30 am with Pastor John Mapa officiating. Internment will be the Christ Lutheran Cemetery with a light lunch following at the church.
