Shirley Brittenham

Shirley Ann Brittenham, 82, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died May 11, 2016 at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital in Gothenburg, NE.

She was born July 22, 1933 in Ingham, NE, daughter of Reuben and Eva (Callahan) Johnson the youngest of four daughters. She grew up north of Moorefield and attended Jeffery Queens school south of Brady.  She graduated from the Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis in 1951.  She worked at McDonald State Bank in North Platte until her marriage.

Shirley married Eldon Brittenham on December 31, 1953, to this union three sons were born: Dale Lee, Ricky Wayne and Lynn Wade. The family moved to Cozad, NE in 1963, later moving to the family homestead in Moorefield, NE in 1973. Eldon then bought out his father's cows and land and began to manage the family homestead. Shirley was a busy farm wife and mother.  She enjoyed cooking meals from scratch which were always good! Shirley enjoyed spending time in her garden and researching family genealogy.

She is survived by three sons, Dale (Vivian Koch) Brittenham of Lincoln, Rick (Cathy) Brittenham of North Platte; Lynn (Missy) Brittenham of Moorefield; six grandsons, Jeff (Becky) Brittenham, Erik Brittenham, Evan (Beth) Brittenham, Seth (Amanda) Brittenham, Austin (Lonna) Brittenham, Jacob Brittenham; three granddaughters, Leslie (Michael) Brestel, Becka (Jaryd Cabriles) Brittenham, Holly Brittenham; four great grandsons Cameron, Nathan, Jett and Roland; two great granddaughters Chloe and Claire; sister LaVawn Rowson of Fulton, MO; and siser-in-law Maxine Brittenham of North Platte.

She was preceded by her parents, her husband Eldon, and two sisters Lorene Hoaglund and Darlene Brittenham.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Monday, May 16, 2016, 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

Graveside services will be held at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE, Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 2:30 pm with Pastor Larry Viter officiating.
