Shirley Briggs

Shirley A. Briggs, 81, of Curtis, Nebraska, died December 15, 2016 in North Platte, NE.

She was born March 30, 1935 in Humboldt, NE, daughter of Elmer and Florence (Sitorius) Rexroth.

Shirley grew up in Humboldt and graduated from Humboldt High. She later graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University, Lincoln and University of Wyoming, Laramie.   She started her teaching career in 1957.  She taught school for 35 years in Curtis NE.  She married Donald on June 12, 1965 in Lincoln, they lived and taught school in  Curtis.  To this union two children were born - Heidi and Corey.

She was a member of the Curtis UMW and involved with the Easter Pageants and Choir. She was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority, Nebraska State Education Association, Curtis Education Association, and Eastern Star.   She enjoyed spending time with her family, doing embroidery and writing letters.  She enjoyed the Arrowhead Meadows Ladies Golf.

Surviving are husband of 51 years, Donald Briggs of Curtis, NE; daughter and birthday twin, Heidi (Scott) Lowthorp, Sidney, IA, son Corey (Nancy) Briggs, Columbus, NE; seven grandchildren; brother, Duane (Mary Lou) Rexroth, Shenandoah, IA, brother, Lynn Rexroth, Wayzata, MN; sister-in-law Phyllis Briggs, Alliance, NE; brother-in-law Robert (Pam) Briggs, Harrisonburg, VA; 12 nieces & nephews, along with extended family and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death her parents, sister-in-law Sherry Rexroth, and brother-in-law David Briggs.

Memorial services will be held at First United Methodist Church Curtis,  402 Center, Curtis, NE, Monday, December 19, 2016 at 11:00 am.

Memorials may be given to the  First United Methodist Church,  402 Center, Curtis, NE 69025 or Medicine Valley Education Foundation.
