Roy Lee Flies

Roy Lee Flies, 76, of Kearney, Nebraska, died February 28, 2024 in Kearney, NE. 

Roy was born November 7, 1947 in Auburn, NE, son of Eugene and Willa (Miller) Flies.

Roy grew up in the Auburn area where he graduated High School. He joined the Army and served for four years. During his time in the Army he was in Germany, Australia, and served in the Vietnam War among other places. After he was discharged, he returned to Auburn, then moved to North Platte in 1976 where he worked in construction. Roy graduated from MidPlains Vo-Tech as a welder and diesel mechanic. In 1978 he married Elaine Aubushon and gained son, Tony and later to this union two boys were born. They lived in Humboldt, Brady, Ravenna and Shelton before moving into the VA home. Roy had a love of horses, leather working, tinkering on tractors, creating ceramics at the VA, and just being ornery. He loved playing Santa Claus and being with kids. His grandkids meant the world to him. He was a very proud veteran. 

Survivors include wife, Elaine Flies of Kearney, NE; two sons, Travis (Angela) Flies of Gibbon, NE, Tony (Michelle) Aubushon of North Platte, NE; two sisters, Chris (Arnie), Dona (LeRoy), brother, Dave (Pat) Flies, granddaughter, Riggin Flies, three grandsons, Garrett, Caleb, Trenton Flies.

Roy was preceded in death by son, Wade "Tulsa" Flies, parents, Eugene and Willa Flies, sister, Linda Kuhlman, brother, Bill Flies.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Wednesday, March 6, 2024, 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm with the family present from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm.

Services will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, March 7, 2024 at 10:30 am with Pastor Michael Koenig, and Tammy Aubushon officiating.  

Interment will follow in the Peckham Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the St. Jude's Children Hospital or Wounded Warriors.
