Ronald Sobotka

Ronald Daniel Sobotka, 94, of Grand Island formally of Gothenburg, died June 26, 2016 in Grand Island, NE.

Ron was born December 17, 1921 in Bee, NE, son of Ernest and Albina (Divis) Sobotka .

Ron served his country in the US Navy from August 1942 to September 1945.  He married Helen Jordan on February 28, 1942; to this union, two sons were born - Terry and Jim.  In 1969 the family moved to Cozad where he owned and ran Ron's IGA which he sold shortly after that to Blaine Peterson at which time he went to work for Peterson's Supermarket.  Ron was the store manager and employee at Petersons Supermarket for over 40 years.  He was an avid sports fan and loved the Huskers and Cubs.  Ron enjoyed fishing when time allowed.

He is survived by two sons Terry (Ursula) Sobotka of Lincoln, and Jim Sobotka of Grand Island; three grandchildren David Sobotka of Lincoln, Cindy Sobotka of Omaha, and  Melissa (Darnell) Delaney of Lincoln;  nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchild.

Ron was preceded in death by wife, Helen Elizabeth Sobotka, sister, Eve E Wood, and his parents.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Wednesday, June 29, 2016, 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm.

Graveside services will be held at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, June 30, 2016 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Joel Plisek officiating.

Interment will follow in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska.
