Roger Nice

Roger Nice, 83, of Fayetteville, NC, died August 28, 2024 at his home.

Roger was born April 21, 1941 in Alliance, NE, to Aaron and Eleanor (Stroy) Nice.

Aaron, Eleanor, his brother DeLane and Roger moved shortly after to Broken Bow, Nebraska, where Roger attended Broken Bow schools and graduated in 1959.

After high school he worked doing electronics repair, and also obtained a private pilot's license. In 1964 he married Charlene K. Golden and together they had a daughter, Sheila Marie, in 1965.

He enlisted in the army in 1968 and was sent to Vietnam in 1970-1972, when he returned to Nebraska, Charlene and Roger parted ways and he moved to Fayetteville, NC. In 1973 he was stationed at Ft. Bragg. During his military service he was deployed to Germany for a short time and then returned to Ft. Bragg, where he volunteered in 1978 to go to Ft. Bliss for paratrooper training before returning to Ft. Bragg to finish his military career, where he retired with an honorable discharge. During his army career he received the Overseas Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, NCO Pro. Development Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Parachute Badge, and the Meritorious Service Medal.

After his army career he started driving truck for a few different companies before starting his own business, Nice Transport. He drove for himself until his health stopped him from doing so at age 78. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, working with electronics, home repair, flying, motorcycles, boating,gardening. Roger resided at his home until he passed away on August 28, 2024.

Survivors include daughter, Sheila Marie (Kevin) Brown of Curtis, NE; four grandchildren, Joel (Melynda) Linden, and their children Kenna, Caleb, Kameryn, Cicely (Ben Gitzen), Higginbotham, and their children, Garrett, Maddison, Christopher, Logan Brown, and his children Renesmae, Jaxon, Evangeline Brown, Rylie Jo Henderson.

Roger was preceded in death by parents, Aaron and Eleanor Nice, his brother, DeLane Nice, nephew, Terry Nice.

Graveside Services will be held at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, September 20, 2024 at 1:00 pm.
