Ramona Jean Elson, 91, of Curtis, Nebraska, died Friday, March 12, 2021 at Linden Court in North Platte. She was born November 21, 1929 at home in Somerset township in Lincoln County, NE, the eldest twin daughter of John J. and Dorothy L. (Garner) Durner.
Jean attended country grade school in Lincoln County and graduated high school from Nebraska School of Agriculture at Curtis in 1946. She later taught at the Somerset, NE country school for 2 years. Jean married George Elson, May 22, 1949 at Wellfleet, NE. They made their home on the farm north of Curtis for over 24 years where their three sons were born and raised. They then moved into Curtis in late 1973.
Jean was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Curtis where she served as the Sunday School Superintendent for several years. She also served on the Curtis Senior Center board. Her first love was her family, and she also very much enjoyed church, dancing, golf, gardening, hummingbirds, and playing cards. Jean was also very proud to have a niece, Linda Jean Evans, and a great-granddaughter, Darbe Jean Ramm named after her.
Survivors include her three sons, Lindy Elson and Larry (Elaine) Elson all of Curtis, Terry (Judy) Elson of North Platte; seven grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law Evelyn Durner; and special life long friend Bob Mercer along with many extended family and friends.
Jean was preceded in death by husband George Linden Elson, Sr. on November 15, 1982, her parents John and Dorothy Durner, brother Merle Durner, twin sister and brother-in-law Verona Joan (Jake) West, sisters and brothers-in-law Tom (Merna) Elson, Wilma (Fritz) Wolff, Earl Elson; niece Marilyn Cole and nephew Dale Elson.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 18, 2021 Noon - 3:00 p.m. at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Curtis, Nebraska.
Services will be held Friday, March 19, 2021, 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in North Platte, with Pastor Doug Delp officiating.
Interment will take place at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens south of North Platte.
Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church of Curtis or the Curtis Senior Center.
