Richard Gutherless

Richard "Dick" Gutherless, 83, of Brady, Nebraska, died October 28, 2013 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE., after a long struggle with cancer.

Dick was born July 7, 1930 in North Platte, NE; to Frank and Ruth Gutherless. He lived in Snell Canyon on the family ranch and went to Nebraska School of Agriculture at Curtis. He graduated in 1949 and served a year in the Air Force; 1950-51.

He married Barbara Weber on July 3, 1950. They moved to the valley and were involved in raising Purebred Herefords and holding annual bull sales. Dick was a member of the American Hereford Association as well as the Nebraska Hereford Association where he served on the Board of Directors and a term as President. He also had four trucks on the road with Gutherless Hay Service. Dick was active in Boy Scouts and 4-H with his children; Joe, Susan, Kristi, and Scot. They enjoyed spending Sunday afternoons at Roping events or on Snell Canyon Lake with the McNitt family.

Dick is survived by his loving wife of 63 years; Barbara and sons Rick "Joe" Gutherless, Scot (Karen) Gutherless, and daughter Susan (Bob) Golter. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Casey Golter, Corey Golter, Alison Hoeke, Teri Jo Mitchell, Bobby Mack Gutherless, Jodi Gutherless, Jesse Gutherless, Amber Gutherless, Danielle Gutherless, Riley Anderson and Lucas Anderson. He also has 17 great grandchildren.
Dick is also survived by his sister, Gayle (Ken) Legrand and niece, Pam and nephews Mike and Jeff.

Dick was preceded in death by his father and mother as well as his daughter, Kristi Kae Sukraw.

Living on Hiway 30 Dick was known for his generosity of giving gas to stranded motorists, fixing broken down vehicles and offering a sandwich and coffee to those in need. He could fix anything in his shop where he enjoyed spending time when he wasn't taking care of the cows and checking pastures and water.

Register Book signing will be held from 9:00 am until 8:00 pm Nov. 8, 2013 at Blasé-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg; with the family present from 5-7pm.

Memorial Services will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church on Sat. Nov. 9, 2013 at 11:00 am with Father Don O'Brien officiating.
