Ralph Douglas Millsap, 79, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died July 30, 2021 at Azria Health in Grand Island, Nebraska.
He was born September 11, 1941 in Spokane, WA, son of Earl and Josephine Millsap. Doug graduated from Arcata High School, Arcata, CA in 1960. After high school Doug studied diesel engineering at Shasta Junior College and Oregon Technical Institute. He worked as a mechanic for his father's logging company prior to being drafted to the U.S. military for service in Vietnam. He met Mary Catherine Kerr in 1965 and they became engaged in 1966 prior to his deployment. They married in Eureka California on April 16, 1967. They lived in Newport News, VA briefly before making their home in Gothenburg, NE.
Doug was employed at the Union Pacific Railroad for over 30 years prior to his retirement.
Doug enjoyed fishing, hunting, hiking, backpacking, and many activities that involved the great outdoors. He loved to spend time with family and friends and had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren. He will always be remembered as a kind and selfless man that never hesitated to help anyone in need.
Surviving Doug are his brother Harvey (Priscilla) Millsap of Las Vegas, NV, sons Eric Millsap of Gothenburg, NE, Mark Millsap of Beatrice, NE, Kyle (Joelle) Millsap of Grand Island, NE; 5 grandchildren along with numerous extended family and friends.
Doug was preceded in death by his wife; infant daughters, Whitney and Allison Millsap; his brother, Arnold Millsap, his parents, and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Millsap.
Memorial services will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Monday, August 9, 2021 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Larry Viter officiating.
Inurnment ceremony will follow at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska.
In lieu of memorials, Doug would ask that everyone take the time to create some special moments and memories with the people you love and cherish.
