Priscilla Elaine Block, 89, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died June 3, 2019 in Gothenburg, NE.
She was born August 6, 1929 in Gothenburg, NE, daughter of Jurgen Harm and Gustine Alberta (Mueller) Franzen. Her childhood was spent in Custer County where she received her first through 8th grade education. Then she graduated Gothenburg High School in 1947, where 50 years later her grandson Todd graduated from the same high school and her granddaughter Amy a year later. On April 18, 1948 she married Lloyd Block at Zion Lutheran church, to this union one son Brent was born. The family made their home in Gothenburg. They lived for five years on a farm, and then they returned to town. They were self employed in construction. Priscilla spent her time helping with the construction. In 1976, she earned the number one in the nation for her ability as interim decorating homes and displaying the merchandise in the store from a large carpet company and won a national award from Callaway Carpet Company. She worked at the church office for over 20 years. For several years she volunteered her time with Dawson County Parent and Child. But first was her faith, church, her family and any child that entered their home, and her many friends. In later years, she cared for her elderly parents and her husband. When the Trinity Lutheran Church was formed, she had the joy of becoming a member of the new church. It was her joy to watch the progress and building of the new church. The last few years diabetes took it's toll and her eyesight failed her.
Surviving are son, Brent (Rhonda) Block of Gothenburg, NE, grandson, Todd (Heidi) Block; granddaughter, Amy (Jamie) Headley and their children Joseph and Benjamin; brother, Werner J. Franzen, along with many friends and extended family.
Priscilla was preceded in death by husband, Lloyd Block, her parents and sister-in-law Luella Franzen.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Sunday, June 9, 2019, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, June 10, 2019 at 10:00 am with Rev. Jeff Cottingham officiating.
Burial will follow in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE.
Memorials may be given to the Trinity Lutheran Church, the Gothenburg Volunteer Fire Department, or the Gothenburg Senior Center.
