Paul Otto Heins, 84 of Gothenburg died on Saturday, November 25, 2006 at his home surrounded by his family. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 27, 2006 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg with Pastor Matthew Groenke & Lonna Grabenstein, PMA officating. Burial will follow at the Gothenburg Cemetery.

Paul Otto Heins was born September 27, 1922, near Buffalo, Nebraska, to Fred and Sophia (Abele) Heins. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, attending First Lutheran Parochial School at Buffalo, Nebraska.

He was united in marriage to Lola Tharp on March 20, 1947 at Gothenburg, Nebraska. To this union a son, Byron, and two daughters, Karla and Myra, were born. They lived on farms at Cozad until moving to the farm at Gothenburg in 1967.

Paul served on various committees and boards of Trinity Lutheran, Lexington and American Lutheran, Gothenburg. He also served on the school boards of District 29 and 33. He enjoyed playing pool at the Gothenburg Senior Center and did volunteer work for the Center. He enjoyed farming and raising cattle before retiring on the farm.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Lola, a son Byron and his wife Sandra of Mannford, OK; two daughters Karla Bryant and Myra and her husband Dale Gronewold all of Gothenburg, NE. Grandchildren Jeremy and his wife Jolene Heins of Cozad, NE; Amanda and her husband Corey Rossell of Kearney, NE; Alison and her husband Matt Feik of Cozad, NE; Daniel and his wife Kaydee Gronewold of Lincoln, NE; Phillip Gronewold of Omaha, NE; and Brian Gronewold of Gothenburg, NE. Great Grandchildren, KayLee and Kolton Heins, Makenzie and Tra Rossell, and Eva and Blake Gronewold. Two brothers Harold and Arthur (Ramona); two sisters Helen Vickers and Esther Gibbs; two sisters-in-law Helen Heins and Vivian Overturf. Extended family, Judy and John Jensen, Cedric Bryant, Iris and Al DesMarteau, Linda Autio and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Chad Gronewold, a brother Martin, two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law.

Memorial are suggested to go to Central Plains Hospice of Cozad, NE, American Lutheran Church of Gothenburg, NE, American Cancer Society or the Gothenburg Senior Center.
