Officer Jill Larson

Jill Lorraine Larson, 53, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died June 7, 2019 at her home in Gothenburg, NE.

She was born May 18, 1966 in Grand Island, NE daughter of Bernie and Jenelle (Oman) Larson.

Jill graduated from Gothenburg High with the class of 1984.  She was a loving mom and homemaker for her three children.  She worked as a cook at the school cafeteria and during the summer was a swimming pool manager and lifeguard. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church.  She loved being with her kids and grandkids and liked to have fun and play games.  Jill enjoyed running and working out. Her dogs Taylor and Lucy and cats Frankie, Pepper and Simon were very special to her.

Jill was hired as a Gothenburg Police Officer on April 12, 2007, only the third woman to do so. She graduated and became a Certified Nebraska Police Officer from the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center on April 10, 2008. In her 12 year career with the Gothenburg Police Department she attended numerous specialized training classes and courses on all aspects of Law Enforcement and Investigations. Jill was a very hard working Police Officer and was very well respected by her coworkers, supervisors, fellow City employees, other agencies and citizens.

Survivors include her mother, Jenelle Larson of Gothenburg, NE; two daughters, Abby Lorraine (Sean Sabin) Ostergard of Gothenburg, NE, Alexa Lynne (Joe) Libal of Gothenburg, NE; son, Stefen Strayer Ostergard of Gothenburg, NE;  three grandsons, Dawson Ostergard, Jaxon Earll, Jase Thomas; three granddaughters, Sadie Thomas, Selah Thomas, Scarlett Thomas; two brothers, Pat (Rhonda) Larson and Haley Cline, Justin Larson of AZ; three nephews, Tyler Larson, Nate Larson, Brock Larson; step-children Samantha (Josh) Thomas, Joe (Cassandra Kastens) McCandless, and Kyle McCandless.

Jill was preceded in death by her father Bernie Larson, grandson, Seven Thomas.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Friday, June 14, 2019, 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm. with the family present 4-6.

Funeral Services will be held at Gothenburg Public School, Senior High North Gym, 1322 Ave I, Gothenburg, NE, Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 10:00 am.

Interment will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.

Memorials may be given to the Gothenburg Backpack Program or in memory of Jill for the community to be determined later.
