Nelda Marie Covey 85, of Curtis, died December 8, 2006 at Sunset Haven Nursing Home in Curtis. She was born in Moorefield, NE on March 5, 1921 to Henry and Jessie (Dempcy) Frey. She grew up in Moorefield and was raised by her mother and step-father James Rose. Nelda attended school in Curtis, graduating from Curtis High School. She later attended and graduated from the Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis in 1939. Nelda married Raymond Covey on October 22, 1941 in Kansas. Nelda taught school for one year before marrying Ray and two years after being married. She stopped teaching when there son Gary was born. Nelda decided to become a homemaker raising her two children Gary and Denise. She enjoyed fishing, watching baseball and most of all spending time with her family. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors, the Neighborly Bells, and the VFW Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Christian Church in Maywood. She is survived by her husband of 65 years Raymond Covey of Moorefield, NE; one brother Leslie (Sarah) Frey of Holly Hill, FL; two sisters Phyllis Rose-Burton and Gertrude Rose-Broge both of North Platte, NE; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Gary, her daughter Denise, one brother Kelvey Frey and two step-brothers Merle Rose and Garmen Rose.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the Berean Bible Church, Curtis, NE with Rev. Dale Heimer Officiating.
Visitation will be Monday, December 11, 2006 from 9 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Blase-Wetzel- Strauser Memorial Chapel in Curtis.
Burial will be in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery.
