Marjorie "Marj" Houchin

Marjorie Irene Houchin,96, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died February13, 2022 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE.

She was born July17, 1925 in Beatrice, NE, daughter of Oswald Camille and Mary (Krivan)  Nies.
Marjorie grew up in the Lincoln and Beatrice area and attended schools there, graduating from Beatrice High School in 1943. She married Hugh Harlan Houchin on September 9,1943. They were stationed in Norfolk, VA while in the navy, and they made their first home at the Ft Wayne, IN at the Naval Base.  After naval discharge, the couple continued to build a lifetime partnership. They moved to Nebraska in 1949. Hugh worked as a telephone lineman, then entered the ministry in 1953. Marj loved being a wife and mother. The couple had four children Hugh Jr., Linda, Joyce, and Todd. They lived in numerous Nebraska communities before settling in Gothenburg in 1969. Hugh and Marj served the Gothenburg United Methodist Church from 1969-1979 and the Lexington,NE and Topeka, KS Evangelical Free Churches. After retirement, Hugh and Marg wintered in south Texas, serving an RV Park church in addition to planting a Mexican Colonia fellowship in Reynosa, Mexico.

Survivors include daughters Linda (Melvin) Adams, Joyce (Bruce) Clark, and Todd (LuAnn) Houchin, 13 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren, special niece Linda Hubbard, along with numerous other nieces and nephews. Also surviving are step-sister Sonny, and half-siblings Butch, Karen, Doug, and Randy.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Harland Houchin, son, Hugh Houchin Jr, sister Norma Jean Nies, special niece Donna Markham, and her parents.

Visitation will be held at Cornerstone Bible Church, 1721 Lake Ave, Gothenburg, NE,  Monday, February 21, 2022 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm with the family present.

Services will be held at the Cornerstone Bible Church, Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at 10:00 am with Pastor Scott Newman officiating.

Interment will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Gothenburg Public Schools Backpack Program or the Cornerstone Bible Church Benevolent Fund.
