Lola Heins

Lola Mae Heins, 92, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died January 26, 2017 in Gothenburg, NE.

Lola (Tharp) Heins, 92 of Gothenburg, passed away January 26, 2017 at Gothenburg Health. Lola was born at Cozad, Nebraska October 15, 1924 to Cyrus William and Myrtle Esther (Stear) Tharp.  Her birth mother passed away March 1927.  The family then made their home with grandparents, Jacob and Mable Stear until 1929 when Cyrus re-married.  With his marriage to Louella Ewing of Scottsbluff County, the family moved to Mitchell, Nebraska.  Lola started school at Springer District #7.  In 1932 the family moved northeast of Cozad where Lola attended District #60.  She graduated with the class of 1942 from Gothenburg High School.
Lola was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical Church in Cozad.  Later she joined Lutheran churches, with her last membership at Trinity Lutheran in Gothenburg.
Prior to her marriage, Lola worked at Northwestern Bell and in the office at Stickelman’s sale barn.   In March 1947, Lola married Paul Heins. While living and farming south of Cozad three children, Byron, Karla, and Myra were born to the couple.   As the children were growing, Lola helped on the farm, especially during calving season.  The fall of 1967, Paul and Lola moved to their farm south of Gothenburg.  Later, Lola was employed at Larsen Jewelry.  Paul and Lola enjoyed square dancing, traveling, and activities at the Gothenburg Senior Center.
Lola left the farm in February 2015.  Initially, she made her home in a duplex apartment.  With an illness in October of 2015, Lola moved to Stone Hearth Estates.
Preceding Lola in death were her husband, Paul; grandson, Chad Gronewold; sister Vivian and her husband, Merald Overturf; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Martin and Helen Heins; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harold and Wilma Heins; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Art Heins, his first wife Gloria and second wife Ramona; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dale and Helen Vickers; and sister-in law Esther Gibbs, three nephews, and one niece.
Surviving Lola at the time of her death are her son Byron of Oklahoma; daughter Karla Bryant, daughter Myra and her husband Dale Gronewold, daughter-in-law Judy and her husband John Jensen, and son-in-law Cedric Bryant all of Gothenburg.
Also surviving are six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.  These are:  Jeremy (Jolene) Heins, KayLee and Kolton; Amanda (Corey) Rossell, Makenzie and Tra; Alison (Matt) Feik, Bryant and Austin; Daniel (Kaydee) Gronewold, Eva, Blake, and Tobin; Brian (Rebecca) Gronewold, Gabby, Carly, and Maxon; and Phillip Gronewold.
Other survivors include three step-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren—Robert (Patti) Jensen, Will and Anna; Brian Jensen; Stephen (Christina) Jensen, Grayson and Bennett. Extended family members are Lola’s “Colorado Kids” Al and Iris Desmarteau, “Oregon Daughter” Linda Damiano, Charles Bean, Leslie and Diane Brown, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, and especially the staff and residents at Stone Hearth Estates.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Sunday, January 29, 2017, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm with family present from 4:00 - 6:00 pm.

Funeral Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Monday, January 30, 2017 at 10:30 am with Rev. Jeff Cottingham officiating.

Burial will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery, Gothenburg, NE.
