Lois Rice

Lois Rice, 88, formerly of Farnam and Gothenburg, died January 18, 2017 at Bethany, Oklahoma.

Lois Oberg was born October 8, 1928 to John and Antonia (Johnson) Oberg in Farnam, Nebraska.  She grew up on the family farm south of Farnam, and attended the Sunflower College schoolhouse, graduating from Farnam High School in 1946.

She taught two years in one room school houses before attending and graduating from Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho.  Prior to her senior year in college, on August 29, 1951, she married Earl Rice of Farnam, and they attended college together before graduating in the spring of 1952.

After graduating, Lois and Earl returned to Nebraska.  First in Oakdale, and then Litchfield, Earl pastored the local Nazarene church while Lois taught school.  After Lois’ father passed away, they returned to Farnam, eventually moving to Corpus Christi and then Del Rio, Texas, where they spent over 40 years teaching and preaching.  After their retirement in 1993, Lois and Earl moved to Gothenburg, where they became involved in the Hispanic ministry of the Cozad Nazarene Church.  Earl passed away June 5, 2005.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, John and Antonia Oberg; brothers Clarence Oberg and Lawrence Oberg and sisters Ruby Ulrich and Gladys Sukraw.

Survivors include her children:  son, Jerry (Brenda) Rice of Bethany, Oklahoma; daughters, Janet Rice and Kathy Rice of Gothenburg; grandchildren Joanna Rice, Julie (Daniel) Herrera and Timothy (Marlene) Rice; great-grandchildren Abigail and Elena Herrera; and numerous extended family members.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Friday, January 27, 2017, 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm. with the family present.

Funeral Services will be held at Farnam Church of the Nazarene, Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 10:30 am.

Interment will follow in the Farnam Cemetery, Farnam, Nebraska.
