Leonard "Swede" Swanson, 89, of Curtis, Nebraska, passed away March 27, 2023, at his home in Curtis, NE.
Leonard was born January 5, 1934 in Moorefield, NE, son of Lawrence and Una Marie (Lierman) Swanson . Leonard lived south of Curtis until 1946 and then moved north of Curtis where he lived the rest of his life.
Leonard attended Fox Creek School and graduated from UNSA in 1956. His position on the football team was End, where he scored many points for the Aggies which was his joy.
He married Dixie Trosper in 1953. Four years later he was called into service with the US Army, where he served in Korea for 11 months and was inactive 2 years before being honorably discharged. He then came back to farm and raise Angus bulls, irrigated corn and Quarter horses. After he stopped farming he worked various jobs until retirement. Leonard was known as a hard worker who was determined to get the job done.
He was a member of the Curtis Berean Church, where he helped to start the Awana progam. He was instrumental in leading a number of children to Christ. He served on the District 75 school board and was a member of the Angus Association and Quarter Horse Association.
Left to cherish his memory, is his wife, Dixie Swanson of Curtis, NE; daughter, Lorri (Henry) Martin; son, Terry (Kim) Swanson; brother, Rodney (Marilyn) Swanson of Cozad, NE; four grandsons, Nathanial (Jenna) Martin of Hutchinson, KS, Wesley (Shelby) Martin of Hays, KS, Tyler (Kaely) Martin of Herndon, KS, Joshua (Erin) Swanson of Hendersonville, TN; two granddaughters, Kira (Aaron) Austin of Whitehouse, TN, Kinsley (Doug) Ramey of Greenbrier, TN; and nine great-grandchildren.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Una Marie, sister, Evelyn, brother, Dean, and numerous brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Curtis, Nebraska; Sunday, April 2, 2023, 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm.
Services will be held at Berean Bible Church, April 3, 2023 at 2:00 pm with Brian Nicklas officiating.
Interment will take place at 10:00 am, Monday April 3, 2023 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the family for later designation.
