Lena E. Aden, 98, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died July 9, 2014 at Linden Court in North Platte, NE.

She was born December 27, 1915 on the family farm northeast Cozad, NE, daughter of Cobus and Emma (Fickenscher) Stevens.

Lena grew up on the family farm northeast of Cozad. She attended Pine Ridge country school through 8th grade and graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1934. After she graduated she taught K-8 at Sunny Hill school in Custer County. Lena married Reinhard Aden on June 15, 1939 at the Christ Lutheran Church; to this union three children were born - Douglas, Carol and Marlys. Lena was involved with the family business, Aden's Standard Service Station. During the War, she fed the Service men in the North Platte Canteen Depot. She was a member of the 3-H Extension Club and a Girl Scout Leader for more than 10 years. She was very active in the American Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School, Bible School and Confirmation Classes. Through the years she had held all the offices of the ALCW. She loved music and sang in the choir. Lena made hundreds of quilts for the Lutheran World Relief and knit baby sweaters for LWR. She was a beautiful seamstress and loved to create handiwork including knitting, crocheting, and counted cross stitch. Lena enjoyed her garden from which she would can and freeze the vegetables.

Surviving are daughter, Marlys (Willis) Jepsen of North Platte, NE, son, Douglas (Cathy) Aden of Omaha, NE; eight grandchildren- Sara (Kevin) Cory, Rebecca (Chad) Grev, David Dell, Steven Dell, Jennifer (Dan) Anthony, Jessica (Jim) Einspahr, Joanna (Jon) Knapp and Jennifer (Jay) Read; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Bertha Rickertsen of Lexington, NE, along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Lena was preceded in death by husband, Reinhard Aden in 2002; daughter, Carol Dell 1990; her parents; three sisters, Anna Peterson, Ella Loibl, and Ruth Franzen.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Friday, July 11, 2014; 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

Services will be held at American Lutheran Church, Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 10:30 am with Pastor Jon Mapa officiating.

Burial will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery, Gothenburg, NE.

Memorials may be given to the American Lutheran Church, 1512 Ave G, Gothenburg, NE.
