LaVaughn Schmidt was born in Curtis, NE, to Roy and Gladys Williams. She attended school in Curtis and graduated from Curtis High School. She married Dorrance Schmidt in 1939. Two children were born to this union. Dorrance and LaVaughn lived in Rushville, NE, after they married, and then Bridgeport, NE, where they raised their children. In 1970, they returned to Curtis and lived on their farm until 1980 when they moved to town. LaVaughn had many friends and enjoyed playing cards, visiting, and shopping. LaVaughn was a home-maker her entire life and took great pride in her home.
LaVaughn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister, Lucille Haynes. She is survived by her daughter, Janice (Duane) Bright, and son, John (Deanna) Schmidt. She leaves five grandchildren--DeAnn and Darryl Bright, Steven and David (Jennifer) Schmidt and Carrie (Keith) Duesenberg; four great grandchildren--Destiny Bright, Chancellor Bargen, Natalie and Christian Duesenberg; three sisters-in-law—Betty Christensen, Frances Schmidt, Virginia Schmidt, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Bridgeport, NE; Thursday, February 28, 2013 10:00 am - 11:00 am MST.

Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Bridgeport, NE , February 28, 2013 at 11:00 am MST with Rev. Ronald Nuss-Warren officiating.

She will be laid to rest beside her husband at the Oregon Trail Cemetery, Bridgeport, NE.

Memorials may be given to the 1st Presbyterian in Bridgeport, or Frontier County Rescue.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013, 3:00 p.m. at the Curtis Senior Center.
