Kenneth Sawyer

Kenneth R. Sawyer, 77, of Brady, Nebraska, died January 21, 2019 at Great Plains Health in North Platte, NE.

He was born October 13, 1941 in Rock County, NE, son of Ralph and Mary (Vore) Sawyer.

Ken grew up in the North Loup area and graduated from North Loup High School in 1959. After high school he was working in Aurora, NE where he met Karen Roszhart and they married on April 20, 1963. The couple had four children - Brad, Tami, Maris, and Kaydee.  Throughout their marriage they lived all over central Nebraska, but his heart was always in the Sandhills.

Ken lived a life serving Jesus and left his love for Christ as a legacy for many. His early ministry included serving with the Gideons International at both the state and local level.  This led him to begin serving as the Pastor at Svea Dal Evangelical Covenant Church near Brady for 31 years. Ken was also faithful in leading numerous bible studies including the Thursday night bible study group for over 40 years.  He was a cowboy at heart and had a love for riding, and took great pleasure in his team of Percheron horses. Lending a helping hand for his neighbors and friends was always something Ken was ready to do.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Sawyer of Brady; son, Brad (Sally) Sawyer of Thedford, NE; two daughters, Maris (Lonnie) Buller of Ashland, Kaydee (Daniel) Gronewold of Lincoln, ten grandchildren - Mariah (Jason) Elliott  and their children Harper & Brecken; Marissa (Zach) Lempka, Boyd Sawyer, Jessica Buller, Sawyer Buller, Grant Buller, Derek Buller, Eva Gronewold, Blake Gronewold, Tobin Gronewold,  two brothers, Kay (Della) Sawyer of Central City; sister, Carol (Gary) Squier of Merna; Glen Sawyer of Mason City; brother-in-law Herb (Ardys) Roszhart of Marquette, NE; along with many extended family and friends.

Ken was preceded in death by his daughter, Tami Colleen Sawyer, his parents, and sister, Linda Shoemaker.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Friday, January 25, 2019, 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm. with the family present from 4:00-6:00 pm.

Funeral services will be held at Evangelical Free Church, 1721 Lake Ave, Gothenburg, NE, on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11:00 am with Greg Boller officiating.
