Karen "Kay" Lynn Olmsted, 81, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died April 19, 2022 at her home in Gothenburg.
She was born December 2, 1940 in Wauneta, NE, daughter of Harold and Lucinda Moon. She grew up in Wauneta and graduated from Wauneta High School. Following graduation, Kay went on to attend nursing school at Mary Lanning school of Nursing. She married John Olmsted on September 4, 1963 in Wauneta. To this union, three children were born: Michelle, Rebecca, and Racheal. Kay worked as a nurse at Gothenburg Health for over 50 years and at Great Plains Health for over 20 years. In 1989, she received the Hero award from the NRECA.
She was a member of the Gothenburg United Methodist Church, the Nebraska Nurses Association, as well as a local bridge and knitting club. Kay loved to read, knit, cross stitch, and baking cakes. The one thing she loved more than any of that was her family, especially her grandchildren, Amelia and John.
Survivors include two daughters, Michelle Chew of Gothenburg, NE, Rebecca Olmsted of Lincoln; two grandchildren, Amelia Raine Chew Barber of Johnstown, CO and John Edward Indpendence Chew of Estes Park, CO; sister, Ardith Stute; brother-in-law, Gene Olmsted; sister-in-law, Delpha Olmsted, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Karen was preceded in death by husband, John Olmsted, her parents., Harold and Lucinda, daughter, Racheal Olmsted, and brother, Harold Moon.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Thursday, April 21, 2022 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM with family present from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM.
Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Gothenburg, Friday, April 22, 2022 at 3:00 PM.
Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta, NE.
