Janice Messersmith

Janice Messersmith, 77, of Maywood, NE passed away on Monday February 12, 2024 at Great Plains Health. 

Janice was born on January 3, 1947 at Oberlin KS to John Gerald and Violet Evelyn (Clayton) Berry. She was living in Maywood at the time of her death. She attended school at Norcatour, KS. 

On August 3, 1963, she married Larry D. Messersmith at the Methodist Church in Oberlin, KS; to this union was born four children: Danny Ray, Brad Lee, of North Platte, Van Duane, of McCook, and Vicky Dee Huntly of Oberlin, KS.

She was baptized into  the Maywood Christian Church on August 20, 2003.  Her life revolved around her husband, her children and their families, her home and her friends.  She loved to cook, bake, crochet, read and entertain at her home. She loved to color and she loved her Savior Jesus Christ. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, son, Danny Ray, both her parents, two brothers Marlin (Bud) Berry and Merlin Berry, a sister-in-law Janice, niece Donna and one unborn infant child in 1965.

Survivors include two sons, Brad (Julie), Van (Rita), daughter Vicky (Gaylen) Huntley, 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild,  brother Steve (Chris) Berry of McCook, sister Joan (Joe) Thummel of Phillipsburg KS, sister-in-law Ardie Berry of Danbury NE; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family and friends; Mary Jones of Idaho; Eric and Tami Ludeman of Colorado; Rachel Miller of McCook, NE.

Visitation will be Friday, February 16, 2024, 4:00-6:00 pm, Blase-Strauser-Wetzel Memorial Chapel, Curtis, NE.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 17, 2024, Maywood Christian Church, 202 Plum Street, Maywood, NE.

Burial will follow in the Maywood Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
