James Johnson, Sr

James é�a��A"Tomé�a��? T. Johnson, Sr., 80 of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died November 13, 2006 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. He was born on March 10, 1926 in Maxwell, Nebraska. to John and Mabel (Lindberg) Johnson. He grew up in Maxwell and attended and graduated from Maxwell Public School. He entered the U.S. Army during World War II from 1944-1946 where he was a Corporal. On May 29, 1946 he married Phyllis Packard at Comstock, Nebraska. The couple lived in Craigmont, Idaho before moving to Maxwell where they farmed. In 1965 they moved to Gothenburg, where he lived until his death. Tom worked for the Coop in both Maxwell and Gothenburg, and delivered fuel to the farmers. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, and especially enjoyed fishing in Canada. He loved watching his grandkids in their sports, and later, the great-grandkids in their sports. Tom was a member of the Fort McPherson American Legion Post # 181 of Maxwell. Tom is survived by one son Jim (Bev) Johnson of Omaha, Nebraska. One daughter Sue (Larry) Schledewitz of Maxwell, Nebraska. One brother; Jack Johnson of Walla Walla, Washington. One brother in Law; Don (Phyllis) Packard of Oakridge, Oregon. One sister; Mae Kennedy of Spokane, Washington. 2 Sister-In-Laws; Betty Schaffer of Casper, Wyoming and Ruth Brown of Arcadia, Nebraska. Five grandchildren; Aaron (Teri) Schledewitz; Amber & Samantha Schledewitz, and Jennifer & Christopher Johnson. 4 Great Grandchildren: Marissa & Garett Schledewitz; Jaylen Janas; and Hanna Jansma. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife on June 25, 1991, and an infant daughter. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 20, 2006, 10:00 a.m., at the American Lutheran Church, Gothenburg, Nebraska with Pastor Matthew Groenke and Lonna Grabenstein, P.M.A. officiating. Burial is in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska. Military honors by Fort McPherson American Legion Post # 181 of Maxwell. Visitation is Sunday 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg. Memorials may be given to the Maxwell Scholarship Fund % Larry Schledewitz, 20000 E. Ft.
