James Russell Cover, 81, of Cozad, Nebraska, died February 17, 2015 at Meadowlark Pointe in Cozad, NE.
Jim was born October 7, 1933 in Cozad, NE, son of Victor and Edith (Winter) Cover.
Jim grew up at Cozad and graduated from Cozad High with the class of 1951. He served in the US Army from December 3, 1953 to November 17, 1955. On June 26, 1960 Jim married Virginia Meinberg at Seward, NE; to this union two children were born - James H. and Heidi. Jim was a farmer and rancher. He enjoyed fishing, goose hunting and coffee time with his friends. He was a charter member of the Cozad Elks Lodge 2250 and a member of the Gothenburg VFW post 64.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Virginia Cover, of Cozad, NE; daughter, Heidi Cover, of Cozad, NE; son, James H. (Tami) Cover, of Lincoln, NE; two grandsons, Jimmie and Jacob Cover, of Lincoln, NE; three sisters, Mary Keller, of Kearney, NE, Judy (Tom) Maline, of Holbrook, NE, Sandy (Milan) Schneider, of Gibbon, NE; brother, Bill (Audrey) Cover, of Lexington, NE;sisters and brothers in-law, Marilyn and Allen Ellis, of Lincoln, NE and Jean and Clelland Tonniges, of Staplehurst, NE, along with several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Henry and Marie Meinberg; and a niece, Cari Kadavy.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, 620 10th St, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Friday, February 20, 2015, 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm. with the family present from 6-8.
Funeral Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 819 E, Cozad, NE, on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 2:30 pm with Rev. Karen Woo officiating.
Burial will take place in the Cozad Cemetery, Cozad, Nebraska.
