Harriet Oberg

March 7, 1924 — November 22, 2013

Harriet M. Oberg, 89, of Gothenburg, NE departed to be with her Savior at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital on November 22, 2013. Harriet was born March 7, 1924 in Gothenburg, to Walter and Dena Sitorius Jensen. She graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1942. After graduation she worked as a buyer and retail clerk at Brown McDonald in Gothenburg for several years until her marriage to Lavern Mortimer Oberg on October 17, 1945. Together they raised four children. They lived and farmed north of Gothenburg for 57 years. In 1968 they moved to a new home in Gothenburg where she lived until March 2012. The remainder of her life she resided at Stone Hearth Estates.

Harriet accepted Christ as a young child, and was faithful to Him throughout her life. She was well known for her famous pies and cinnamon rolls and for the hundreds of quilts she made. She was instrumental in starting the first Farmers' Market in Gothenburg. Her spunkiness, determination, and kind heart endeared her to family and friends alike.

Survivors include three daughters: Muriel Gengenbach of Denver, Colorado, Marilyn (Cliff) Brock of Gothenburg, Marcia (Doug) Folkers of Littleton, Colorado; one son: Mark (LaNona) Oberg of Gothenburg; fifteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death her parents, husband Lavern, infant daughter Molly, brother John Jensen, and sister Marye Franzen.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Monday, November 25, 2013 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm, with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 pm..

Services will be held at Evangelical Free Church, November 26, 2013 at 10:00 am with Pastor Doug Monkemeier officiating.

Interment will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.
