Glenn Jurgens

November 4, 1921 — April 11, 2014

Glenn John Jurgens, age 92 died April 11, 2014 at his home in Curtis Nebraska. He was born Nov. 4th, 1921 on a farm west of Moorefield, NE to George and Emma (Waltemath) Jurgens.

He graduated from Moorefield High School in 1939. He attended Kearney College for one year before being drafted into the service. He was in the service from 1942-1945, serving 2 years in the Pacific Area. On Aug. 11th, 1946, he married Beverly McDermott in Wellfleet, NE. To this union there were 4 children born-3 sons and 1 daughter. Over the years this family increased to 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. His family was the love of his life. God really blessed him.

He received a BA at Hastings College in 1949. In the fall of 49, he started as a math teacher at UNSA. He then went on to teach at MVHS and UNSTA. He completed 49 years of teaching. He was very active in school functions and also in many community activities. He was a boy scout leader, served on the city council, active in the Curtis Little Theater for 25 years and American Legion, served on the ambulance board, sang in the Curtis Easter pageant for 45 years and the Methodist church choir for 55 years. When he retired from teaching, he and Bev had a craft business, traveled a lot, and enjoyed playing golf until age 91.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 62 years, son John Chris, Mother and Father-in-Law John and Violet McDermott; Brothers Chris and Porge; Brother-in laws Doug McDermott, Dallas Ryan, Harry Whitver, Marvin Greenwood; Sister in Law, Betty Whitver.

He is survived by 2 sons: Randy (Cheryl)Jurgens of Lincoln, NE, Rod (Jo) Jurgens of Lamar, Missouri, daughter Pam Jurgens of Curtis, sister Francis Greenwood of Wellfleet, NE, Sister-in-Law Shirley Jurgens of Lakeport, California, Betty Jurgens of Nampa, Idaho, Alice McDermott of Wallace, Barb Ness (Dale) of Dent, Minnesota, 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

Services will be held at First United Methodist Church, 402 Center Curtis, NE, Monday, April 14, 2014 at Noon with Rev. Bonnie Forney and Pastor Brian Nicklas officiating.

Interment will take place at a later date in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska.
