Gerald Lenz

August 9, 1926 — January 30, 2015

Gerald F. Lenz was born on August 9, 1926, to Paul and Katie Lenz in Moorefield, NE.  He was baptized on September 19, 1926, and confirmed on June 7, 1942, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Moorefield, NE. He passed away on January 30, 2015, in Seward, NE.
“Judd” attended Moorefield High School and graduated on May 10th, 1944, with an honors scholarship to Grand Island Business College. Judd decided to forego college; instead he enlisted with the United States Army on December 20, 1944. Judd served our country for 2 years and saw active duty in Japan during the Korean War. He then returned home and worked on the family farm.
On December 26, 1954, he was united in marriage to Ella Hansen at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Curtis. To this union four children were born, Vickie, Ronnie, Randy and James. Judd and Ella raised their children on the farm east of Curtis. Ella passed away on April 29, 1991. Judd retired from farming in 1997.
Judd was very active in the community of Curtis and St. John Lutheran Church. He served on the Curtis Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Department for over 40 years; and was a founding member of the Ambulance Department. Judd was a member of the Legion Club, Lion’s Club and Moorefield Co-op Board.
Judd was an avid Husker, New York Yankees, Los Angeles Lakers and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He loved a great game of baseball. In his later years, Judd enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great grandsons in their sporting events. Judd never passed up a game of cards.
Judd was preceded in death by his wife Ella; parents, Paul and Katie Lenz; his brother Paul Lenz; brother, Art and his wife, Elsie Lenz; his mother-in-law and father-in-law Leslie and Marguerite Hansen.
He is survived by his daughter Vickie and her husband Tim Hegeholz of Staplehurst, NE; Ronnie Lenz of Curtis, NE; Randy and Elaine Lenz of Maywood, NE;  James and Trish Lenz of Seward, NE.  His grandchildren include Darcy Carey, Stacy Lenz of Omaha; Torey Lenz of Curtis; Jeana Hegeholz of Lincoln; Tyson
Hegeholz of Seward; Sarah Lenz of Marrietta, GA; Grace and Tyler Lenz of Seward; step grandchildren Namoi Beasey of California and Ryan Rucker of Scottsdale, AZ; great-grandsons, Ty and Shawn Carey of Omaha; step great grandchildren Halle and Jake Beasey and Rachel Rucker of California; Sister-in-law, Iona Lenz of Moorefield, NE; brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Thorval and Artis Hansen of Brady, NE; Marvin and Bee Hansen of North Platte, NE; Harley and Kathy Hansen of Stockville, NE and Norma Hansen of Superior, NE; numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Zabka Funeral Home, Seward, NE. Visitation will then be held on Monday, February 2, 2015, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Blasé Strauser Funeral Home, Curtis, NE. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, St. John Lutheran Church in Curtis, with burial in the Moorefield Cemetery.
In charge of arrangements are Zabka Funeral Home in Seward, NE and Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Curtis, NE.
