Gary Fisher

Gary Fisher, 85, of Agoura Hills, CA, formerly of North Platte, NE, died August 4, 2018 at his home in Aguoura Hills, CA.

He was born September 5, 1932 at North Platte, to Homer C. and Lula Belle (Blackburn) Fisher. He was raised from the age of 2 by his grandmother Myrtle McHugh. He was baptized in the Lutheran Church.  Mr. Fisher attended Jefferson Grade School, Franklin Junior High School and graduated from the North Platte Senior High School in 1950. He joined the U. S. Navy in 1951. During his tour of duty he was stationed at the Inactive Floating Dry Dock group and with the Office of Naval Intelligence in Honolulu Hawaii. He received an honorable discharge in 1955.He returned to North Platte after service discharge and worked for the Swan Furniture Company and for Armour Packing. He attended Mc Cook Junior College for 1 semester in 1958 after which he continued his education at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. He graduated in 1962 with a BSEE in electronic engineering. He married Mae Sylvan of Gothenburg in 1960.  Mr. Fisher was awarded a Howard Hughes Master's Fellowship at the University of Southern California. He graduated with a MSEE in electronic engineering in 1964. He then worked for the Hughes Aircraft Company until his retirement in 1989. In his early career he served as a design engineer for airborne radar systems and later became en engineering laboratory manager. Mr. Fisher became an enthusiastic bicyclist after his retirement. He logged in more than 20,000 miles including riding from the California/Oregon border to the Mexican border.

He is survived by his wife Mae, and a sister, Marilyn P. Farrar of Apache Junction, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

Graveside services will be held at Gothenburg Cemetery, Gothenburg, NE, Friday, August 10, 2018 at 3:00 pm.
