Leta "Ellen" (Russell) Brown, 91, of Curtis, passed away on November 15, 2013, at the home of her daughter, surrounded by her family.

Ellen was born July 16, 1922 to Theodore N. Russell and Ruby (Tidyman) Russell in Maywood, NE.

She attended country grade school for two years and then completed her education in Maywood Public School graduating in 1939.

Ellen worked as a hired girl for a family until she married Melvin G. Brown on February 6, 1941 in Hayes Center, NE. To this union two children were born, Glenda and Gordon.

She was a Sunday School teacher, church pianist for many years, and sang for numerous funerals in the area.

She cared for an aunt, her mother, and her mother-in-law in her home through illnesses preceding their deaths.

Ellen loved her husband and children, she cooked and sewed for them until her fingers wouldn't allow it.

Surviving are daughter, Glenda and husband RIchard Lenz, son, Gordon and wife Alice, grandchildren, James Lenz, Jolyn and husband Steve Richardson, Bud Anderson and wife Donna, Debbie and husband Kevin and Cyndra Johansen,15 great grandchildren and 14 great-great granchildren. A brother, George Russell and wife Shirley sister, Arlene Weare.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Melvin G. Brown, sister Norma Manning, granddaughter, Janae Lenz, grandson, Devin Anderson, great-granddaughter, Bridget Anderson,

Visitation will be held at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Curtis, NE; Monday, November 18, 2013 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm, with the family present from 5-7 pm.

Services will be held at Berean Bible Church, November 19, 2013 at 10:30 am with Pastor Brian Nicklas officiating.

Interment will follow in the Maywood Cemetery.
