Duane Martin Oliver, 71, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died May 26, 2014 at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital in Gothenburg, NE.

He was born August 27, 1942 in Grand Island, NE, son of Harold D. and Margaret (Hall) Oliver.

Duane grew up in Shelton, NE and moved to Gothenburg in Jr high. He graduated from Gothenburg High School, Parks Business College and Colorado Banking School. Duane married Karen Williams in 1961 at the United Methodist Church in Gothenburg. Duane served his country in the US Army from 1966 to 1972. Duane was the Vice President of Gothenburg State Bank and was active in his community. He was a member of the Gothenburg Fire Department, Jaycees, Gothenburg Chamber, School Board, City Council, CASA Board, GSB Board of Directors, Senior Center Governing Board, and the Golf Board. He enjoyed being out of doors, hunting, fishing, golfing, and gardening. He enjoyed going to the grandkids sporting events and playing cards with friends.

Surviving are wife, Karen Oliver of Gothenburg, NE, son, Darin (Kathy) Oliver of Brady, NE, and children: Bowe, Joslyn and Tessa; his son, Reece Oliver of Papillion, NE, and children Regan and Dane; his daughter, Tara Oliver Larson of Anthem, AZ, children Tyler, Nate and Brock; sister, Sandra Oliver Downs; sister, Carmen Goodwin; step-sister, Joan Swenson; step-brother, Chancy Goodwin; step-brother, Stan Goodwin along with many extended family and friends.

Duane was preceded in death by father, Harold Duane Oliver, mother, Margaret Oliver, and step-mother, Vera Oliver.


Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Tuesday, May 27, 2014 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm.

Memorial Service will be held at First United Methodist Church, Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 11:00 am with Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating.

Interment will follow in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska.
