Doris Grace (Malcom) Rowan, 93, of Gothenburg, NE, died January 4, 2014 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE.

Doris was born February 3, 1920 in Rural Custer County, NE to Ernest and Mary (Anderson) Malcom.

She attended Grade School 225 in Custer County and then attended Redfern Table School in Custer County and Cozad High School.

Doris grew up on a Custer County Farm. She and husband Walter farmed for a few years in Custer County and later moved to a farm North East of Gothenburg, NE where she and Walter raised their family. Following his death she moved to Gothenburg and lived and worked at Parkview Villa that was owned and operated by her son Bob.

Doris married Walter Rowan at her parents' home in Custer County on November 9, 1937. To this union three children were born; Katherine, Robert and Ted.

Her first loves were her husband and family. She always put her children above anything else.

Doris attended the Church of God in Cozad, NE. She was a very active member as she was the church pianist for many years, a youth group leader, Sunday School Teacher and President of the Women of the Church of God. She loved church hymns and she and Walter would often sing for funerals and other events. She was active in her community making quilts and afghans. Doris belonged to the PVC and Women's Extension Clubs in the Gothenburg community. She was also very active in helping her son Bob run Parkview Villa for many years. She was known as the Boss and helped until the age of 87.

Doris loved to play Rook, if she could get anyone to stay up and play with her she would stay up until the wee hours of the morning. It was a game played with friends and family and did she love to shoot the moon, no one else would get the bid if she could help it.

Doris is survived by two sons Bob Rowan and wife Jean of Omaha, NE; and Ted Rowan and wife Linda of Jeffrey Lake near Brady, NE; one daughter Katherine and husband Chuck Belden of Gothenburg; nine grandchildren; Bruce Lambertus, Rick Lambertus and friend Jody Haughs, Lisa (Lambertus) Harris, Tamara (Belden) Ekart and husband Todd, James Belden and wife Ashlee, Kirk Rowan, Kristen (Rowan) Rickertsen and husband Jarred, Michaela (Rowan)Fletcher and husband Murray, Nicole Rowan and husband Brian Putnam, David Rowan and wife Jennifer Starr: 16 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; one brother Paul Malcom and numerous nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband Walter Rowan in 1986, five brothers Arvin Malcom, Walter Malcom, Robert Malcom, Alvin Malcom and Glen Malcom.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, NE; Wednesday, January 8, 2014 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm with the family present from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm.

Services will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, January 9, 2014 at 10:30 am.

Interment will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.
