Donald Bauman

Donald Richard Bauman, 88, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital on January 8, 2015 in Gothenburg, NE.

Don was born April 26, 1926 in Gothenburg, NE, son of Roy and Anna (Block) Bauman.  He grew up in  rural Gothenburg, NE and graduated from Gothenburg High School.  He attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.  He worked at the Nebraska Bookstore, traveling across the country buying and selling books for colleges and universities.

On June 21, 1947, he married Doris Ethel Ann (Retzlaff) Bauman at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Walton, NE.  Don worked as a farmer/rancher north of Gothenburg most of his life. The last three years, he resided at Stone Hearth Estates in Gothenburg.  Don and Doris were married for 65 years and to that union four children were born - Susan Rae, Mitchel Don, Georgia Ann and Joel Dean.

Don was a member of the Nebraska Cattleman's Association, bridge card clubs and dance club.  Don loved his horses, airplanes and at one time owned his own plane.  He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play in any athletic event.  Don also loved the Kansas City Royals and all Nebraska Athletics.

He is survived by his two daughters - Susan Ray Malloy, Georgia (Steve) Reeves; two sons - Mitchel (Cindy) Bauman, Joel (Kim) Bauman; grandchildren - Jeremy Baeckel, Micah, Patrick and Tiani Reeves, Zachary (Azra) Bauman, Abbie (Chris) Signore, Jessica (Nate) Maahs, Colton, Carly, and Cameron Bauman; six great grandchildren - Brandon and Courtney Baeckel, Zara and Gabriella Bauman, Dominic Signore, Mavis Maahs, brother - Gerald (Mary Lou) Bauman; along with many nephews, nieces and extended family and friends.

Donald was preceded in death by wife Doris Bauman,  brothers Kenneth Bauman and Vernon Bauman, and son-in-law Dan Malloy.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Friday, January 9, 2015, 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm with the family present from 4-6 pm.

Services will be held at Evangelical Free Church, Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 10:30 am with Rev. Jeff Cottingham officiating.

Inurment will be held at a later date at the Gothenburg Cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.
