Debbie Mayers

December 13, 1952 — January 26, 2024

Debbie  Mayers, 71, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died January 26, 2024 in Gothenburg, NE.

She was born December 13, 1952 in Lexington, NE, daughter of Harvey and Lillie (Thompson) Wing.

Debbie loved early morning coffee while listening to soothing and relaxing music. She spoke often of her high school years playing both softball and baseball. She loved track and field, especially discus. She earned athlete of the year one of those years! One of her greatest accomplishments was building a two-story log cabin by hand, with Lourie Strasburg. She was very, very proud of that.

She was known for having nicknames for almost everyone. Laurie-Porry, Pauly-Wog, Eddie-Spaghetti, Willie-Bill, Jerry-Berry, Joe-Bongo, Mantz, Kevie-Kev, Ty-Dye are amongst a few. She spent what seemed to be most of her life doing arts and crafts, and she especially loved doing them with her grandchildren. Debbie adored “her father" and was exceptionally proud of him, which annoyed her younger sister Laurie, because he was her father too!  Debbie loved her mom Sarah. Sarah may not have been her biological mother but she was the one that raised her and shaped her. They shared many memories and she truly was “mom” to her! Debbie wore her heart on her sleeve and she loved with her whole heart and matched that fierceness when she felt crossed, you always knew what she was feeling. She loved her entire family but was especially proud of her four boys. Being a mother was her calling and her boys were her whole life. They put her through the wringer but never failed to love them without condition. Her boys remained her most favored accomplishments until the end.

Survivors include four sons, Eddie, Paul, Willie, and Jerry Mayers, her sisters, Laurie Summers, Cathie Mall, brothers, Harvey (David) Wing, Kirt Ryan, 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Lillie Wing, and her sister, Patty Koch, grandson Jacob and great grandson Phoenix, and brothers Michael and Keith Ryan.

Memorial Services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the First Baptist Church, 1002 Ave C, Gothenburg, NE with Pastor Dan Urman officiating.

Interment will be at the Robb Cemetery, Lexington, NE.

Memorials may be given to the family for later designation
