Cloid Schmitz

Cloid Eugene Schmitz, 89, of Curtis, Nebraska, died September 12, 2015 at his home in Curtis.

He was born October 11, 1925 southwest of Maywood, NE, son of Lawrence and Elsa May Schmitz.

Cloid grew up around Maywood and graduated from Maywood High School.  He married his wife Eva Mae Kahler on September 6, 1947 at the United Methodist Church in Maywood. Cloid farmed and did dirt work on the side for many years. In 1994, Cloid and Eva moved from the farm in Maywood to a home in Curtis and moved to Senior Choice Living in 2013.

Cloid enjoyed fishing and being on the water, golfing, gardening and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Maywood and Curtis United Methodist Churches.

Surviving are wife, Eva Mae Schmitz of Curtis, NE, daughter, Connie J. Cohen of Windsor, CO, son, Clayton E. Schmitz of Maywood, NE, son, Bruce A. (Chris) Schmitz of Sutherland, NE, daughter, Mari K Blobaum of Omaha, NE, 13 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren.

Cloid was preceded in death by father, Lawrence William Schmitz, mother, Elsa May White, sister, Lois Schmitz, sister, Lorene Wahlstrom, grandson, Timothy Schmitz, and son-in-law, Jerome Cohen.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Curtis, Nebraska; Tuesday, September 15, 2015, 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm.

Services will be held at First United Methodist Church - Curtis, Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at 10:30 am with Rev. Tom Wilborn officiating.

Interment will follow in the Maywood Cemetery, Maywood, NE.

Memorials may be given to the Maywood and Curtis United Methodist Churches.
