Beverly Ann (Covey) O'Leary, 87, formerly of the Kansas City area and Curtis/North Platte, NE. area died September 22, 2019 in Beatrice, NE.
She was born July 7, 1932 in Frontier County, NE, daughter of Linus and Letha (Kugler) Covey. She grew up in the Curtis area graduating from Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis and attended Kearney Teacher College in Kearney. She lived in the Curtis area until she moved to North Platte, where she met and married Niles W. O’Leary in 1956. Beverly and Niles had two daughters - Vicki and Kelley. After leaving North Platte in 1967 they lived in Overland Park, KS for three years and West Fargo, ND for seven years, returning to the Kansas City area in 1977. Following Niles death in 1984 Beverly remained in the Kansas City area. In 2005 she married Walter Dougherty who preceded her in death in 2019. She was always busy with a variety of jobs. Starting out by teaching school in a one-room school, Beverly also worked as a hairdresser, a school cook, a realtor, and other jobs before she found out how much she enjoyed being a water aerobics instructor. She also loved to travel, visiting 49 states in the U.S.
Survivors include her daughter, Vicki (Steve) Mulholland of Sterling, NE; three grandsons, Michael (Sherry) Mulholland of Amherst, NE, Katlin Houser of Curtis, NE, Kash Houser of Gothenburg, NE; two granddaughters, Marissa (Mark) James of Lincoln, NE, Megan (David) Buckley of Tecumseh, NE; 11 great grandchildren; step-son, Steve (Ann) Dougherty of Monett, MO; step-daughter, Kathy (Darrell) Wilson of Everett, WA; along with many extended family and friends.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Niles W O'Leary, and Walter R Dougherty, her brother and sister-in-law, Dwayne & Betty (Haught) Covey, her daughter, Kelley O'Leary Houser, and her mother-in-law, Nella (Kreeck) O'Leary.
Services will be held at First United Methodist Church of Curtis, Friday, September 27, 2019 at 2:30 pm with Pastor Tunde Oladimeji officiating.
Interment will follow in the Curtis Cemetery, Curtis, Nebraska.
Memorials may be given to the Whispering Winds Cottage, Beatrice, NE or Beatrice Community Hospital Hospice.
