Arlond Garratt

Arlond F. Garratt, 82, of Gothenburg, NE, died on December 23, 2006 at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital. Arlond was born in Helvey, NE on July 8, 1924 to Fred and Elyse Ridpath Garratt. He grew up in Fairbury graduating at the age of 15 and went on to attend Fairbury Jr. College, where he met Creta.


Arlond enlisted in the United States Army in 1941 and served through 1946. He was involved in the European Theater and participated in the Battle of the Bulge.


On July 21, 1946 he married Creta Andrews in Hutchinson, Kansas. Arlond went on to graduate from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in Electrical Engineering.


Arlond loved his family, friends and his church. His days were filled with caring for his yard, working in his workshop and volunteering at the senior center.


He was a member of the Presbyterian Church for many years, a Master Mason at Gothenburg and Lexington, a Worthy Patron of Eastern Star at Gothenburg and Cozad, served on the Gothenburg City Council, was a board member of the Gothenburg Cemetery, a twenty year member of the Natural Resource Board, and for the past five years participated on the Nebraska Natural Resource Commission.


Survivors include his wife of sixty years: Creta Garratt of Gothenburg. Two Sons: Don (Sandy) Garratt of Superior, Colorado and Roger (Kris) Garratt of Seattle, Washington. One daughter Kathy (Mick) Brosius of North Platte. Two brothers: Arnold Garratt of Los Angeles, California and Richard (Barbara) Garratt of Lincoln. Eleven grandchildren. Three great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Sherri (2002) and her husband Richard Blase (2005).


Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 26, 2006, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, NE, with the family present from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.


Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2006, 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Gothenburg, NE, with Rev. Matt Coplen officiating.


Burial with military honors will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery.
