Alice Sheffield

Alice Sheffield, 89, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died April 16, 2016 at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital in Gothenburg, NE.

Alice was born March 11, 1927 in Gothenburg, NE, daughter of William and Laura (Rosser) Garrelts. Alice grew up in the Gothenburg area and graduated from Gothenburg High School. After graduation, she taught rural schools near Gothenburg. Alice married Verlo Sheffield in Gothenburg, NE, on June 5, 1947. To this union two children were born - Kenny and Connie. Alice lived in Gothenburg all of her life, she was a homemaker, mother, grandmother. She also worked as a bookkeeper for the Homestead Restaurant and bookkeeper at Senior Center until her retirement. Alice was involved in Evening Circle, and also in 4-H where she served as a leader. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, entertaining, and sewing.

Surviving are son, Kenny (Donna) Sheffield of Gothenburg, NE, daughter, Connie Jacob of Windsor, CO, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, sister, Linda (Bill) Hughes of Omaha, NE, brother, Glenn Garrelts of Westminster, CO.

Alice was preceded in death by Verlo Sheffield, her husband; her parents; Gary Jacob, son-in-law; Jessie Sheffield, grandson; Bernice (Stanley) Maline, sister; Marilyn (Marce) Van Wart, sister; Bernard (Donna) Garrelts, brother; Susan Garrelts, sister-in-law.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Thursday, April 21, 2016, 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm with the family present from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm.

Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, April 22, 2016 at 10:30 am with Rev. David Boyd officiating.

Interment will follow in the Gothenburg cemetery.
